A Georgia man was arrested for murdering his 10-week-old son.
Police arrested 50-year-old Kelvin Lewis Odom on charges of first-degree child cruelty after he reportedly beat his newborn so badly the child died of a fractured skull.
Odom was the only adult in the home when the boy was injured.
Odom reportedly called 911 on September 2 to report the child was having difficulty breathing.
When paramedics arrived, the boy’s breathing “appeared normal,” documents say.
Odom declined to have the boy transported to a hospital.
Three hours later, the child’s mother found the boy having difficulty breathing again and called 911.
The child was taken to an Atlanta hospital where doctors found he had a fractured skull and head trauma.
The boy died from his injuries.
Odom claimed that the baby had “fallen off the couch and landed on the floor.”
Police are investigating the incident and may upgrade the charges against Odom to murder.
