A Tennessee man was arrested for the murder of his three-year-old son.
Police arrested 47-year-old Terry Patterson on charges of first-degree murder, murder in perpetration of a felony, and aggravated child abuse.
Police say 3-year-old Josiah was found unresponsive at Patterson’s home and rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the boy died of blunt force trauma.
Police determined Patterson was responsible and booked him on murder charges.
The boy’s mother, Kerra Brown, says he was in the middle of a bitter custody battle with Patterson, who had just gotten a week of temporary custody despite the mother’s concerns for Josiah’s well-being.
“I know the system failed,” a family member told WREG. “The system failed period.”
“If I could have went back and got my son, I would have went back and got my son,” Brown told WREG. “I wouldn’t have to be lighting candles talking about missing Jo Jo.”
