Police in France say a father killed his three-year-old son by putting him in a washing machine and turning it on.
On Wednesday, prosecutors told the court that 37-year-old Christophe Chamenois put 3-year-old Bastien into the washing machine for “behaving badly in school.”
Prosecutors also charged the boy’s mother, 29-year-old Charlotte Cotte, with collusion in the tragic incident, saying she failed to stop the abuse.
Champenois told the court he has no memory of what happened that day.
Champenois called an ambulance after the boy drowned, telling them he had a “small problem.”
The father told the dispatcher the boy fell down the stairs and then the boy must have drowned after he put him in a bathtub.
It was the couple’s five-year-old daughter that told doctors, “Daddy put Bastien in the washing machine because he was naughty at school.”
The boy’s mother told the court that Champenois pushed her away from the washing machine when she tried to save the boy.
Cotte also said when Champenois removed the child he said, “At least he won’t bother us anymore.”
