An Alabama man is facing the death penalty after he allegedly beat a 3-year-old girl to death.
In August, police arrested 3-year-old Jettie Ray Adams’ mother, 23-year-old Misty Wright, and her boyfriend, 39-year-old Johnathon Talley, after the child was found dead in a pool of her own vomit.
This week, the court heard that the child was “routinely beaten” by Talley.
Shortly before her death, Jettie was found covered in bruises and bleeding from her genitals by a family member.
“I asked her what happened to her face first,” the unidentified family member said. “They told us that she fell off the trailer.”
Police say the girl endured severe abuse leading up to her death and was found with two black eyes, bruises covering her face, bruises down her entire spine, and bruising on her legs and stomach.
Wright says she knew nothing about the abuse.
Talley and Wright are being held without bond.
Talley faces the death penalty if convicted of murder and aggravated assault charges.
Wright is charged with one count of child abuse.
