An Arizona woman was arrested after admitting to drowning her toddler sons.
Investigators say 22-year-old Mireya Alejandra Lopez confessed to drowning her 2-year-old twin boys and attempting to kill her 3-year-old stepbrother because she didn’t want them to live with the difficulties she faces.
On Sunday, she reportedly drowned her sons in a bathtub and wrapped then in a blanket. She also stabbed one of the boy’s in the neck to make sure he died.
The boys were discovered by their grandmother, who thought they were sleeping but soon realized they weren’t breathing.
Police say that as the grandmother and another person in the house were trying to resuscitate the children, Lopez was attempting to drown her toddler stepbrother in the bathroom.
Her mother was able to save the boy.
Investigators say Lopez suffers from schizophrenia, psychosis, and depression. She was recently released from a mental health facility.
Police say Lopez claimed to killing the boys because they were bullied and weren’t loved.
Lopez is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
She is being held on $2 million bail.
