A Nebraska woman was arrested in the death of her 19-month-old great-niece.
Police in Hastings arrested 33-year-old Azudany Serrano-Contreras for intentionally committing child abuse resulting in death and related charges.
In March, first responders arrived at a Hastings trailer home after 19-month-old Aliyana Peterson stopped breathing.
The child was rushed to a local hospital and had to be air lifted to a hospital in Colorado where she was pronounced dead two days later.
First responders who attempted to resuscitate the girl reported they found a baby wipe lodged in Aliyana’s throat.
Contreras claimed Aliyana put the baby wipe down her own throat but doctors and detectives determined that wasn’t possible.
Contreras was arrested earlier this month.
She is being held on $1 million bond. She faces life in prison if convicted.
