A Missouri couple was arrested after their 2-month-old son was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
On Wednesday, police in Forsyth arrested 21-year-old Alexa Smith for child endangerment and 28-year-old Bryan Matlock on charges of child abuse resulting in injury and child endangerment.
The child was rushed to a hospital in Branson on Wednesday where doctors found the boy had brain bleeding, a fractured rib, many bruises, and a possible bite mark.
The boy had to be transferred to a hospital in Springfield due to the severity of his condition.
Doctors told police they did not believe the boy was injured in an accident.
Matlock told police that he was watching the child on Wednesday when he became angry the boy wouldn’t stop crying and hit him in the face multiple times, bit his arm, swung him around by the legs, and accidentally hit his head while swinging him.
The father also admitted he squeezed the child “very hard against his chest for approximately two or three minutes” to attempt to calm the child.
Matlock also admitted he threw the child “on the couch forcefully approximately four or five times.
The father also “admitted to causing serious physical harm” to the child previously.
He told police he squeezed the boy very hard about three weeks earlier and “heard something pop and believed the prior fractured rib occurred at that time.”
“Matlock stated he was a horrible person,” the police report says.
Matlock is being held on $100,000 bond. Smith is being held on $25,000 bond.
