Shocked Homeowner Finds Newborn With Umbilical Cord Still Attached Left in Front of His House

Police are searching for the mother of an hours-old baby found abandoned outside of a Georgia home Monday.

Atlanta police say Baby Harlan was found abandoned with part of her umbilical cord still attached near the front door of a house last night.

Police found the child covered in specks of blood but said she seemed responsive and alert.

The girl was transported to Scottish Rite Hospital where she is being monitored.

A person at the home where the child was found said he did not see who left the child and has no idea of anyone in the area that the baby might belong to.

Capt. Terrell Griffin told the AP that the department’s main focus was finding the mother to make sure she received proper medical treatment.

Georgia, like most states, has a Safe Haven Law that allows a mother to leave a newborn no older than one week at a medical facility or hospital with no questions asked.
