A Florida woman was arrested after her 15-year-old son overdosed on heroin.
Police have charged Cynthia Hyer with child abuse, saying that she knew her son abused alcohol and drugs and did nothing to help.
On July 3, first responders found the 15-year-old unresponsive and were able to revive him from a heroin overdose.
Hyer told police she ran a “flop house,” where multiple people come to do drugs. She told investigators that two women in their twenties use heroin in her house and she said she asked them to not give any to her son.
Hyer admitted she knew her son was abusing drugs and alcohol and frequently missed school.
Her son reportedly missed 91 of 180 school days this past year.
Her son told police that the two women his mom let in the house showed him how to inject heroin and he had used it for 10 days before the overdose.
The two women admitted they showed the teen how to use heroin and said Hyer had been buying the boy alcohol and cigarettes since he was 14.
Hyer is being held at Sarasota County Jail on $50,000 bond.
